“Put it back.”

I watch the window,

Lock the door,

Distract my eyes –

After checking the blinds

From inside, and out

To go unnoticed within,

Yet still alert

To passersby –

Wish to God I didn’t,

But that Sense

Too fine-tuned

My mind, it fights

To be at ease

So please –

Just keep off my porch.

“The Inner Ear”

“The Inner Ear”

Third eye sees blind without

Sure sense of sound

Balance found in sums

A hum in the flatscreen plus

Wound-up paws sliding on laminate floors

In the felines’ wild hour –

Supposition exposed to reality

A second sight geographically bound

Unfitted from present space –

Beyond hearing range,

The rains on Sugar Creek

I spotted from a westward peak.

Dream Reconveyed 1

Written August 18, 2022 at 1:23 AM (MT)

A dream of night-eyed beavers

Three or more of them aflame –

Their carnival-treat tails scuffled ‘cross

Busted blocks of 20th century concrete –

Buck-tooth’d spits and hisses drowned

In the sound of falling timber –

Conveyed in the hellish glow

Of the mammals’ nostrils and eye sockets –

Untamed, pelts blackened by wildfire,

The colony’d reclaimed one of Man’s broken dams –

And backed me down the bone-dry spillway

Till my heels met the littered riverbed –

And so I remember the smell of mud and smoke

Regardless of whether I was ever there ~

Water Sign

Saying bye to June and hello to #JulyJuly –

Here’s a #haiku called “Water Sign”

Oh, the commotion
My Planets in motion, re:
Birth lands on the Moon ~

“On Writing Inspired”

I feel it coming now
the words I’ve found
are pouring out –

a worn-out time-pressure faucet
rinses my hands to a sputter
asking only that I tap it again
for fresh water

– repeating the process till
all the suds are gone from my skin
and the pages read clean
as the day is long –

like how I imagined when
I first dreamed ~

Women see each other

Once we realize we’ve been taught to judge ourselves against one other

We just stop

Women watch and wait for the signals we send

With our eyes and stances,

Phrasing and pitch and pointed glances

Women intercede

When we glean that things

Are out of step, we step in, up, and forward –

Wardens of our personage

Aren’t you beautiful, love

Who checks to see if I am good before walking on –

Call this something like a song

For womanhood

Know Better

Think you know better

Than me

Who honors my body daily?

Who wears this skin

Who knows what my smile means?

Think you know better

Than me

Who can name every scar

Who wakes and sleeps in this

What is mine, by right of birth

Think you can say what’s best

For my being

Sure you know better

Than me, who carries on

Even after a storm

Even feather-worn

Think you know better, really?

Well think again.

I Surmise

It’s tough at any age

It seems

Like fokes just stopped speaking

Facts’of changed

Know what I mean –

Like how Pluto’s the ninth planet – Except for it’s not actually

Because factually there’s only eight planets in our Solar System (again)

How we learn(ed) and relearn(ed)

     So offtrack

To get back

The dwarfing

In, between

Auspicious, these

Turn out surprisingly

Hard to pin down

When it comes time to

And follow-through

After all, y’all do –

     When it counts

Ain’t that the truth?
